June 3rd

I am starting to feel that bone-deep loneliness that I felt last year. Maybe it is being the only foreigner within about 60 miles. Going to the village helps a little so I try to do that every few days. I love my room at Kenewa’s house. He has a prime location for people watching. I’m about to go on a village tour so I will have some fill of people. I think it’s also being able to speak to somebody in a normal speed and tone of voice. I have to slow my speech down for people here and a lot of the time I revert to Krio for half my sentence cuz they seem to understand me better if I do that. Then 4 visitor’s came by yesterday from England and I had trouble making complete sentences!! Haha.

Water and electricity still not working so much. Hrm. Loving when it rains so I don’t have to go to the river for bathwater!! We also seem to have a mouse/rat problem around here. Around dusk they are running all over the place. I almost stepped on a snake coming out of the dorms a couple nights ago – good thing it was a friendly snake that loves rats. Also good I have a snake ID book now so I can know the difference!
